I purchased and Oreck upright 5 years ago and already have over $100 of repairs into it after only light housework. I paid multiple times for this vacuum that I would for an alternative brand and it has performed less than the cheaper models particularly in reliability. Everyone I know that has an oreck has had the problem of the power coard failing in the handle and had no option to take it to an authorized dealer because of the way it is constructed. I have had major $500 power tools that can have the power cord replaced in a garage with a screwdriver, but on an oreck, the power cord terminations are sealed and the consumer is forced to take the route of a highly expensive repair.
